River Cruise on the Waccamaw- A Hidden Secret?

We tend to talk about DeBordieu's wonderful beach, North Inlet, golf, tennis, and other family activities. An often overlooked natural and lovely resource in the Pawleys Island and Georgetown area is our river systems. We have several rivers that join together to form Winyah Bay, the Waccamaw, Big Pee Dee, Little Pee Dee, Black River and the Sampit. The intra coastal waterway comes down from the north via the Waccamaw River and continues its journey further down to Charleston and beyond.

Our rivers are underdeveloped with much of the waterfront property under conservation easements, never to be developed. This makes for some of the most beautiful and picturesque scenery. Large antebellum plantations can be seen along with an abundance of wildlife. This area is steeped in history and the river is a wonderful way to explore and learn more.
The pictures below were taken last week on a cocktail and dinner cruise at sunset. Geoff and Sherry Groat hosted a few people on the fabulous excursion.
