The <a href="https://bit.ly/2MgWrTf" style="color: #416ed2; max-width: 100%; text-decoration: underline;">S.C. Department of Natural Resources is reporting</a> that Charlotte resident Andy Ball and some friends last month fished the Winyah Bay jetties targeting large red drum.</div>

The day went well, especially for Ball.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
Once he landed his 3½-foot bull red, his group knew instantly it had been caught before, based on the plastic yellow tag that protruded from the spottail's back.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
This finger-length nylon tags each have a different number for identifying individual fish — proof it was part of the state's research pool.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
The tags provide DNR with a wealth of information on the reds and other coastal species it follows.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
The tags are placed on the fish by DNR staffers or by volunteer anglers.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
Ball contacted DNR's tagging coordinator, Morgan Hart, who ran the fish's history and discovered it had first been tagged more than 21 years ago.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
The original tagger was identified as Kevin Mischke of James Island, who marked fish A033559 when he caught it in Charleston's Wappoo Cut in 1997.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
The cut is part of the body of water that divides West Ashley from James Island.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
"When Mischke caught it, the red drum was already a mature fish at 35 inches – meaning he/she is now likely to be well older than 21 years of age," DNR said.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
Some red drum are known to live up to 40 years.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
Ball could not be reached but Mischke, 52, of James Island, said it was one of the hundreds of reds he's tagged in his fishing career.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
"Most of the fish I've tagged have been big fish," Mischke told The Post and Courier. A buddy of his once pulled in a 42- incher from the cut, he said.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
The tags go in the fish in its mid-section, behind the dorsal fin. </div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
This isn't the first time this particular fish has been caught. A033559 was also landed by angler Warren Wood in 2008 in the same vicinity where Ball caught it recently.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
"By this time, the red drum had grown 5 inches and migrated to Georgetown, where Wood reported catching it off the Winyah Bay jetties," DNR said.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
During the past 25 years, South Carolina anglers in the tagging program have tagged some 61,000 red drum.</div>
<div style="max-width: 100%;">
"Those fish have been recaptured nearly 10,000 times, with individual fish being reported as many as four times each," DNR said.</div>

The father and son team of Donny McElveen, Jr. and Donny McElveen, II bested the team of Ron Swinson and Tony Hanna in perhaps the most dramatic fashion of any golf event ever conducted at DeBordieu. After halving the 18th hole in the final tournament playoff, the foursome marched on to a sudden death playoff. This time they would play a closest-to the-pin competition from the newly dubbed <em><span style="font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif;">Blue Heron</span></em> hole (a tee box approximately 130 yards right of the 18th green) The McElveen's would tee off first while the large crowd looked on. Unbelievably, on the first swing in this final playoff Donny McElveen, II holed the shot from 139 yards... <em><span style="font-family: "calibri" , sans-serif;">a hole-in-one</span></em>!! All in attendance were in awe as they witnessed an incredible</span> <span style="font-size: 16.5pt;"> ending to a great weekend at DeBordieu! For the report RealtyTrac analyzed more than 1,400 cities in coastal counties as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau. The list was narrowed all the way down to the top ranking bargain beach town in each of the 15 states with a city matching the final criteria for a bargain beach town (see full methodology below).</div>

“Buying a second home or investment property in a beach town can help families save on summer vacations for years to come and also potentially generate vacation rental income,” said Daren Blomquist, senior vice president at RealtyTrac. “While real estate close to the ocean tends to be pricier, bargains are still available particularly in smaller towns off the beaten path where home prices have been slower to bounce back from the housing downturn. We picked the highest-ranked bargain beach town from each state to provide a good sampling of the diverse beach town experiences available across the country.”</div>

<strong>Report methodology</strong><br />Only cities bordering the ocean with a population of 50,000 or fewer and with an average June-to-August temperature between 60 and 80 degrees were included. The list was then narrowed down to the top 75 beach towns based on a bargain beach index that factored in air quality, density of registered criminal offenders, median home prices relative to other beach cities and median home prices relative to the 2006 home price bubble.</div>

The total index score was from 0 to 500, with 500 being the best possible index score. Average temperature data came from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Air quality data came from the Environmental Protection Agency. Median home price data came from publicly recorded sales deed data collected by RealtyTrac. Registered Criminal Offender data came from data collected from state offender registry sites collected by RealtyTrac subsidiary Homefacts.</div>
