Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 11:00am

On the waterfront and along Front Street, Georgetown, SC
This year's show will feature wooden boat exhibits, a boatbuilding competition, kid's model boatbuilding, boat raffles, maritime arts & crafts, food and music. These events will take place on the waterfront and in Historic Downtown Georgetown. Money raised through sales and donations will help fund the development of the Harbor Historical Association's maritime museum.

Georgetown's Wooden Boatbuilding Challenge will take place on October 16, 2010 during the 21st Annual Wooden Boat Show.
Two-man teams will compete in building a 12 foot rowing skiff within a four hour time limit and then test their boats for seaworthiness in a rowing race on the river. Each team will use identical building plans and will be issued the same building materials. The building part of the competition will begin at 12 noon with the command "
Gentlemen Start Your Skil Saws", and will end at 4 pm. At 5 pm the teams will race their completed skiffs in a rowing relay across the Sampit River. At the end of the day cash prizes will be awarded based on speed of construction, quality of workmanship, and rowing speed.
The Georgetown Challenge is open to men and women, family teams, boatbuilders, cabinetmakers ...basically anyone with a competitive spirit and a love for sawdust, power tools and..... wooden boats.
The entry fee is $100. Each team will receive a set of building plans when they sign up so they can get familiar with the plans before the big day. Most teams practice-build a boat or two before the competition. On the day of the show each team will be issued boatbuilding materials, two team hats embroidered with the official Georgetown Goat Island Yacht Club logo, and two tickets for the awards banquet. (Dinner for family members or guests is an additional $15 each.)
