DeBordieu's golf course renovation... it is currently a dirt track-BECAUSE it is being renovated. They killed the grass and stripped it to dirt in most places in preparation for the new sod, seed, and sprigs. It has been impressive watching the work that has been taking place. These changes are going to be fantastic. The course is going to play better with firm fast greens. Less water is needed to conserve a natural resource, and it will require less money to manage long term.

A recent update from the DeBordieu Club...

Golf Course Improvement Project Update:

The first two weeks of the project have been very active.
 Greens:
The Club was fortunate to have P. B. Dye on site for 7 days.  P. B. has completed the work needed to return the greens to their original size and contour.  Sprigging of the greens is scheduled to start on June 12th. The sprigging of the greens should only take a couple of days.

Grass:
The sodding process has started with the bunker faces and the mounds on the first hole.  As of today, 12 truckloads of an estimated 80 truckloads of sod have been installed.  When the project is complete over 840,000 square feet of sod will have been installed.   That is enough sod to cover over 15 football fields.
Modern Turf is on site today to start sprigging the fairways and roughs.  With the cooperation of Mother Nature, Modern Turf is anticipating the completion of sprigging by July 15th

Tees:
The enlarging of tees and the creation of new tees is well underway.   Almost every existing tee will be enlarged.  After the project is complete, the Club will have increased the tees from 152,460 square feet to 217,800 square feet.

DeBordieu is a highly ranked SC course (a state with LOTS of wonderful golf courses). I expect it to creep up the list in years to come. This Pete and PB Dye golf course is a must play for anyone visiting the area.
