Hike Hobcaw: Hike to Alderly Plantation

Hobcaw Barony Discovery Center is built on the former Alderly Plantation, owned by JJ Ward. Walk out into the woods with an interpreter to explore the trails leading to home sites, rice fields, and canals. The hike is roughly 5 miles of relatively flat land, located on the west side of Hobcaw Barony. Reservations are required, click here to make a reservation.




Mr. & Mrs. Baruch: A Love Story

Celebrate the romance and marriage of Bernard Mannes and Anne Griffen Baruch whose 1897 union was considered controversial. In this tour and lecture at Hobcaw House, learn of their respective childhoods, religions, courting in Central Park and their 3 children. Trail Ride With Your Horse

$30/person

Hobcaw Barony offers an opportunity for individuals of all ages to bring your own horse(s) and ride designated trails. Riders will have the experience of exploring the 16,000 acres with maps that will highlight points of interest. Check-in time runs from 9am - 12pm, and all horses, trailers and their owners must depart by 5pm. Reservations required. Registration and waiver forms must be completed and received by Hobcaw Barony at least 3 days before the event to insure confirmation. Strawberry Schoolhouse

Celebrate President's Day by bringing your family to a one-room, African American schoolhouse. Learn of rural education in the 20th century. The Baruch family paid teachers to provide an education through 4th grade for roughly 30 students living on Hobcaw Barony. Reservations are required, click here to make a reservation.




Hobcaw Barony: Behind th Scenes

Join us for an expanded tour of the property with opportunities to see and experience more than what is offered on the Introductory Tour. The program includes stops at the North Inlet salt marsh, the grounds of Bellefield Plantation, Friendfield Village, and the main floor of Hobcaw House, giving participants a chance to spend more time at each location. Cemeteries on Hobcaw Barony

Bellefield Plantation

The Great Pee Dee, A River In Time

Dr. Suzanne Cameron Linder Hurley joins our exclusive group for on Thursday evening at Hobcaw House for drinks, a seated dinner and a talk in the living room The author of A River In Time, The Yadkin and the Pee Dee, Dr. Hurley also researched Hobcaw Barony for Historical Atlas of The Rice Plantations of Georgetown County and The Santee River.
The Belle W. Baruch Foundation's two-part program provides a picnic and transportation for our participants on a field trip to various private plantations along the Pee Dee River on Friday. Duck hunting remains a popular part of the rice plantation heritage and owners prove their appreciation of each property's past.

Archaeology Underground

A tour of the archaeological dig site.  Participants receive a brief overview of the history of Hobcaw Barony and then travel on Hobcaw Barony buses to the dig site near Hobcaw House. Dr. Karen Smith, archaeologist with SC Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, and her staff, offer information on their methods and their findings at what may be the oldest European settlement on the Waccamaw Neck. Reservations are required.
