A Minnows Point of View-DeBordieu with Video

Mud minnows (thats what locals call them) are a commonly used bait for flounder, redfish, and trout. Mummichog are what they are officially called. Flounder fishermen especially love them. Most people tend to buy them at the local tackle store. Pawleys Island Outdoors and The Boat Shed are two places nearby DeBordieu that will have these minnows for sale.

Fishermen do catch mud minnows on their own using a minnow trip. Broken crab is arguably the best bait to place into a minnow trap. The place the trap is a small very shallow creek. Wait a while, and then you should have enough fresh minnows for bait. Transfer them to a minnow bucket and go fishing!

Below is a video showing the minnows point of view and how a trip works.

This is another interesting technique. He is catching minnows to use for bait with a rod and reel. Squid is attached to the hook. Minnows come to munch on the squid. He then pulls them out of the water. They drop to the ground. The minnows are not being hooked. They simply latch on to the squid long enough for him to pull them out of the water. This might be as much fun as fishing for bigger fish!
